These large paintings were created in conjunction with Rachel and James, two fellow-students at York St. John College, temporarily to replace stained-glass windows and to hide scaffolding within the church during renovation work in 2002-2003. Full story

Six 6 foot panel paintings created for the community of St. Denys' Church in York. The artwork reflected the social history, the architecture and the religious beliefs of the people who lived in the vicinity of this church through centuries past. The church is of medieval origin within the city walls of York and is steeped in local history. Evidence of a 300 year history of metalworking, copper alloy casting and smithing on this site has been found. The church served what was a slum area of medieval York, populated by Irish migrant workers and it is this rich history which we tried to reflect in our work.
